§ Why it matters

Your roof is where the heat goes

Glasgow's housing is unlike anywhere else in Britain. The city is defined by its tenements — grand blocks of red and blond sandstone flats that fill Dennistoun, Partick, Govanhill, Shawlands and the West End — where it's the top-floor flats, right under the roof, that lose the most heat. Around them sit the inter-war garden suburbs and 'four-in-a-block' houses of Knightswood, Cardonald, Mosspark and Scotstoun, the big peripheral estates, and the sandstone villas of the leafier Southside and West End. Whether you're in a top-floor tenement flat or a house with a proper loft, a roof space that's under-insulated — or never insulated at all — means colder rooms in winter, and Glasgow winters aren't forgiving. We work with the quirks of every roof type.

§ Reviews

What Glasgow homeowners say

Top-floor tenement flat in Shawlands, always freezing right under the roof. They insulated the roof space and it's a different flat now — warmer and quieter.
Eilidh M.Shawlands, G41
No pushy upselling — they recommended a wool top-up and boarded a bit for storage. Tidy, fair and done in a day.
Stuart R.Dennistoun, G31
Our 1930s house in Knightswood had thin, settled insulation. Sorted now and the bedrooms hold their heat far better.
Aisha & RobKnightswood, G13
Finished Knauf mineral wool installation at a full, even depth in a cold loft
Recent project

Recent work from our installer network

A mineral wool upgrade to a traditional cold loft, completed by one of the vetted, insured installers we work with. The roof space started with a thin, settled layer of original wool — here is what changed, in the installer's own photographs.

§ FAQs

Glasgow loft insulation, answered

01

How much does loft insulation cost in Glasgow?

Topping a Glasgow roof space up to the recommended 270mm typically starts from around £250, depending on size, access and material. Your free survey gives you a fixed price with no obligation.

02

I'm in a top-floor tenement flat — can you still insulate?

Usually yes. A top-floor flat has a roof space above the ceiling that can be insulated just like a house loft. Where the roof void is shared with neighbours, we'll let you know if any factor or neighbour agreement is needed before we start.

03

Is it worth insulating an older sandstone property?

Definitely. Glasgow's solid sandstone walls are expensive to insulate, which makes the roof the cheapest, biggest single saving you can make — it's the first thing we'd recommend for a tenement or a traditional house.

04

Will insulating cause damp or condensation?

Not when it's done properly. Poor airflow is what causes roof condensation, so we check ventilation on every job and insulate in a way that lets the roof breathe.

05

Can loft insulation help my EPC rating?

Yes. Topping the roof up to the recommended depth is one of the cheapest ways to lift an EPC — useful for landlords under Scotland's tightening standards for rented homes. Home Energy Scotland can advise on any grants you may qualify for.

06

Is the quote really free?

Yes — the survey and written quote are free and no-obligation. You only go ahead if you're happy.
